Got Questions?

I’m here to address your concerns, answer your questions, and help guide you on your publishing journey.

What genres do you edit?

I edit both fiction and non-fiction works. My specialties include speculative fiction (e.g., fantasy, sci-fi, magical realism, fairy tales, etc.), adventure fiction, poetry, YA, NA, children’s books, memoirs, and self-help.

I do not accept horror, thriller, true crime, or any works with gratuitous violence.

Do you provide sample edits?

Yes! Before editing begins, I’ll ask for a sample of your work to gauge the expected timeframe and get a sense of your writing. I’ll send back a sample edit so you can decide if we’d be a good fit.

How do payments work?

I require 50% upfront and 50% once edits are complete. The full amount must be paid before I send back your edited work.

All payments are made through Stripe and are non-refundable.

How long will the editing process take?

That depends on the type of editing you’re looking for (i.e., developmental editing, line/copy editing, proofreading, or a manuscript critique), the length of your work, the extent of edits required, and my current workload and life responsibilities.

You can review general timelines for each editing service on my homepage.

Keep in mind that editing is a very detailed, time-intensive process that requires patience and trust in your editor. Quality editing cannot be rushed.

However, I’m always available to answer questions and provide updates throughout the process, so feel free to email me any time!

Do you send individual chapters as you finish editing them?

No. As a writer, I understand how hard it is to send your work off to an editor and simply wait for it to be returned. But my job is to make sure your work is the best it can possibly be. That involves reviewing your manuscript multiple times so nothing gets overlooked.

Before hiring an editor, it’s imperative to understand that editing is an intrinsically lengthy process. Waiting weeks—or even months—to receive your edits is not only common; it’s expected.

Be patient with your editor! You’ll find that it was worth the wait.

What does your process look like?

Once you’re ready to start editing, you’ll first fill out this contact form. We’ll discuss your project and I’ll provide a sample edit.

If you decide to move forward with editing, I’ll send an invoice, which you’ll use to make your first secure payment through Stripe. You’ll send your full manuscript as an MS Word attachment or a Google Docs link via email.

Edits will be made using MS Word’s Track Changes and Comments features.

Once edits are complete, I’ll send a final invoice. After I’ve received your payment, I’ll send two copies of your edited manuscript: a marked-up version showing all edits/comments, and a clean copy with all edits accepted. I recommend having both documents up when reviewing to get a complete sense of the changes.

Post-editing additions or revisions may be subject to an additional editing fee, to be determined based on the scope of work.

Do you offer rush options?

No. Due to the nature of this work and the diligence required, I do not offer rush options.

What if I have questions after edits are complete?

My inbox is always open, so don’t hesitate to email me any time! You can reach me before, during, and after the editing process.

I generally respond to messages within 48 hours, except during holidays.

Can you help me with formatting / cover design / audiobook narration / self-publishing questions / etc.?

Yes! I can provide contact details for other professionals in the industry based on your specific needs. I do not have contact with publishing agents at this time, as I primarily work with self-publishing authors.

However, I’m happy to provide support and help guide you through the self-publishing process. If you have questions, just ask!
